Latin Way Rain Garden, Tufts University

Tufts University is at the forefront of implementing Low Impact Development techniques to provide sustainability design features in all their improvement projects. The re-configuration of the stormwater system at Latin Way provided an opportunity to provide stormwater treatment generated from a portion of campus. A vegetated rain garden was the most effective design technique to increase stormwater quality given the limited space available between existing campus buildings. The rain garden intercepted stormwater flow from building roofs and surface impervious areas. The rain garden slowed the stormwater flow to provide infiltration and to settle out sediment contained within the stormwater prior to release into the city storm drain system.
